Mississippi bans sex toys
Further thoughts on RR stupidity

Mississippi has banned sex toys.
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/6308419 (you have to scroll down a bit)

I have no idea why, but they have. Apparently it’s also illegal to have sex with someone you’re not married to or to live with someone other than your spouse. Some states also have laws against oral and anal sex, which pretty much makes homosexuality of either flavour illegal. Can we say Dark Ages?

What possible business does the government have telling us what we can and can’t do in our bedrooms? So long as it doesn’t involve kids or coercion, it’s none of their business!!!

Utterly ridiculous, and another thing that makes the American claim to be the Land of the Free seem absurd.

(note: the RR at the top of the page refers to the Religious Right)

(note 2: the pink colour of the text is a salute to gay people of all varieties whose love is still, ludicrously, illegal)

What's next? Making it illegal for women to wear shoes? They want us pregnant, barefoot and probably with our mouths sewn shut too.

Kim, I agree. One day I'll figure out why sex and womanhood are so intimidating to men of a certain type.

I'm pro-life but really this is ridiculous. From what I gather these laws are on the books so they can charge someone with something additional to other crimes(like if someone rapes a woman, and forces her to perform oral sex they can charge him for the oral sex as well) I dont really know if that is the actual procedure.

As far as sex toys being banned- I think they are illegal in Texas as well. I know that the smuttier shops are allowed to exist but all of the "products" have warnings saying something to the effect of "toy or gag gift" to get around the law.

Basically, it is ridiculous for us to legislate concentual adult sexuality. I know that there are some in the pro-life group that really do want to make anything other than procreative sex a crime..but they don't speak for most of us.

Lauren, I'm glad that's how you feel. The problem is that the anti-sex part of the prolife brigade seem to be a lot louder than the moderates who aren't actually afraid of their own bodies.

Having said that, most people think of feminists as lunatic manhaters because they're the ones who get all the press. Most of us aren't like that.
